Under a contract with the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, AFMC is the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for Arkansas. We are responsible for monitoring, evaluating and improving the health care provided to Arkansans who are on Medicare. We also provide information and educational outreach for Medicare beneficiaries.
The Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care (AFMC) was incorporated in 1972 as a private, nonprofit educational organization dedicated to the clinical evaluation and improvement of health care in Arkansas and throughout the country. Over the past 39 years, we have developed strong partnerships with many influential stakeholders across the state and nation, from professional associations and community boards to government-appointed task forces. Today we work with a number of other agencies as well. One of AFMC’s primary responsibilities is serving Medicare as a Quality Improvement Organization (QIO).
Our services include:
- Data management and review services for both the public and private sectors
- Health care provider outreach and communications
- Continuing education programs for health care providers
- Patient education tools
